Ingredients/Components

  • brown sugar - 1 tsp
  • vegetable oil - 1/4 c
  • peanut butter - 1 Tbsp
  • chili powder - 4 tsp
  • finely chopped onion - 1 c
  • turmeric - 1 Tbsp
  • cup water - 3/4 item
  • grated fresh ginger - 1 tsp
  • dark soy sauce - 3 Tbsp
  • finely grated lemon peel - 1/2 tsp
  • garlic cloves, finely chopped - 4 item
  • flank steak, slice crosswise into strips 1/8 inch thick

How to make indonesian beef sate:

***You will need bamboo skewers.

For marinade: Heat oil in skillet over medium high heat. Add onion, garlic, and ginger and saut?© until onion is soft. Add remaining ingredients and stir to make smooth paste. Reduce heat and simmer 2 minutes. Add meat, stirring to coat well. Remove from heat and let stand until room temperature. Thread meat onto bamboo skewers, weaving strips in and out to pack tightly.

***NOTE, the turmeric in the marinade will temporarily stain your hands yellow, to avoid this I would suggest wearing gloves of some sort. Prepare grill and cook 3-4 inches from heat source basting with remaining marinade, until crisp and browned, about 3 minutes on each side.

THIS STUFF IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! My mom took an outdoor cooking class one summer and this was one of recipes that came out of it. These things never even make it to the table, we eat them right off of the grill. You will fall in love!
