Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 1 tsp
• salt - 1 tsp
• flour - 1 c
• butter - 1/2 c
• water - 3/4 c
• soda - 1/2 tsp
• buttermilk - 1/2 c
• baking powder - 1 tsp
• egg - 1 item
• cornmeal - 2 c
• chopped onion - 1/2 c

How to make hush puppies:

Sift together first 6 ingredients; place in a small bowl. Add onion, buttermilk and water, mixing well. Add butter and egg. Drop by small teaspoonfuls into preheated deep fat.
