  • cornmeal - 1 c
  • all-purpose flour - 1/2 c
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • garlic salt - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • minced onion - 1/2 c
  • green onion with top, chopped - 1 item
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • milk - 1 c

How to make hush puppies:

Combine first 5 ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients. Stir well. Let batter stand 5 minutes. Carefully drop batter by level tablespoon into deep hot oil (370°). Cook only a few at a time, turning once. Drain on paper towels. Yields about 2 dozen.
