Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 Tbsp
  • brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • water
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • dry mustard - 1 tsp
  • paprika - 2 tsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 2 Tbsp
  • chopped onion - 1/4 1/2
  • catsup - 3/4 c
  • clove garlic - 1 item
  • red pepper to taste - 1 item
  • egg noodles - 3 c
  • beef, cut in 1-inch cubes - 2 lb

How to make hungarian goulash:

Melt shortening in large skillet; add onions, garlic and beef. Cook and stir until browned; stir in catsup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, paprika, mustard, pepper and 1 1/2 cups of water. Cover; simmer 2 hours (I use round steak; it will become tender if simmered for 2 hours). Blend flour slowly with 1/4 cup water; stir gradually into meat mixture until thickened, 1 minute. Serve over noodles. Serves 4 to 6.
