Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 2 Tbsp
  • brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • water
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • dry mustard - 1/2 tsp
  • paprika - 2 tsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 2 Tbsp
  • catsup - 3/4 c
  • small clove garlic, minced - 1 item
  • sliced onion - 1 c
  • hot cooked noodles - 3 c
  • dash of cayenne red pepper - 1 item
  • beef chuck or round, cut into 1-inch cubes - 2 lb

How to make hungarian goulash:

Melt shortening in a large skillet. Add beef, onion and garlic. Cook and stir until meat is brown and onion is tender. Stir in catsup, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt, paprika, mustard, cayenne and 1 1/2 cups water. Cover and simmer 2 or 2 1/2 hours. Blend flour and 1/4 cup water. Stir gradually into meat mixture. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute. Serve over noodles!
