Hot cross buns
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- eggs - 2 item
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 3 c
- melted butter - 3 Tbsp
- warm water - 1/4 c
- yeast - 1 pkg
- scalded milk - 1 c
- mixed candied fruit - 1/2 c
- currants - 1/4 c
How to make hot cross buns:
Add sugar, butter and salt to milk and cool to lukewarm. Stir in yeast (dissolved in a little water) and 1 egg. Sift flour and cinnamon together and add to liquid with candied fruit and currants. Mix well. Cover and let rise to double.Shape into large biscuits and place on a greased baking pan. Let rise. Use remaining egg, slightly beaten, to brush tops of rolls. Cut cross on each with a sharp knife. Bake in 400° oven for 20 minutes. Make a cross with confectioners frosting. Makes 2 dozen.
