Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • baking powder - 4 tsp
  • oil or melted shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • water or milk * - 7/8 c

How to make hot biscuits:

*If buttermilk is used, add 1/4 teaspoon soda to flour.

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add melted shortening or oil to liquid and stir into flour mixture, making a soft dough. Toss onto slightly floured board; roll out 1-inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Dough may also be dropped by spoonfuls. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for about 15 minutes. Serve piping hot with butter, jelly, honey or syrup.
