Ingredients/Components

  • beef including soup bone - 3/4 lb
  • cold water - 3 qt
  • to 4 onions, quartered - 3 item
  • salt to taste - 1 item
  • head cabbage, shredded - 1/4 item
  • tomatoes canned, stewed or fresh - 3 4
  • to 6 medium carrots, sliced - 5 item
  • turnip, diced - 1 item
  • to 4 medium potatoes, diced - 3 item
  • to 4 beef bouillon cubes - 3 item

How to make homemade vegetable soup:

Cut half the meat from bone and brown. Add remaining meat and bone to cold water. Add browned meat, onion and salt to cold water with meat. Cook slowly for a couple hours. Add vegetables; continue cooking until done. This soup is better if used next day.
