Homemade vanilla ice cream
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3 c
- eggs - 5 item
- vanilla - 2 Tbsp
- milk - 1 qt
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- whipping cream - 5 c
- rock salt - 1 to
- crushed or cracked ice
How to make homemade vanilla ice cream:
Beat eggs with sugar until thick. Pour into chilled 1 gallon ice cream cannister. Mix in milk, cream, vanilla and salt. Insert dasher and assemble ice cream freezer. Be sure to read and follow manufacturer's special instructions.Make a 2 to 3-inch layer ice in bottom of bucket. Sprinkle ice with about 3 tablespoons rock salt. Continue layering ice and salt in this manner until filled to top of can. Churn or hand crank for 20 to 30 minutes or until motor slows or stops and ice cream is slushy and thick. It will not get hard.
To ripen or harden ice cream in freezer bucket, drain out liquid. Pack with additional 5 to 10 pounds ice and 1/2 to 1 cup rock salt. Cover top with newspapers. Ripening will take 2 to 3 hours. Makes about 1 gallon.
