Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • butter or margarine - 1/4 lb
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • 3 oz - 1 can
  • heavy cream - 1 c
  • chicken broth
  • salt and pepper - 1 item
  • olive oil - 2 Tbsp
  • tomato paste - 3 Tbsp
  • large onion, chopped - 1 item
  • dried basil - 1/2 tsp
  • dried thyme - 1/2 tsp

How to make homemade tomato soup:

Melt butter in large pot. Add olive oil, thyme, basil, salt and pepper. Saute until onion is wilted. Add tomatoes and tomato paste. Cook 10 minutes. Blend flour with about 5 tablespoons of broth. Stir into tomato mixture. Add remaining broth and cook 20 minutes, stirring frequently. Add sugar and cream. Heat until serving temperature. Serves 8 people.
