Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • self-rising flour
  • warm water - 1/4 c
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg
  • oil or margarine - 1/4 c

How to make homemade rolls:

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine sugar, oil and buttermilk. Stir into yeast mixture. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead 1 to 2 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a floured 2 1/2 inch cutter. Place a pat of butter on each roll and fold in half. Place rolls on heavily greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes. Yields 2 dozen.
