  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • plain flour - 1 item
  • egg, well beaten - 1 item
  • lukewarm water - 1 c
  • yeast cake - 1 item

How to make homemade rolls:

In bowl, put sugar, salt and lukewarm water and mix well. Add yeast cake. Blend in shortening and egg. Add enough sifted, plain flour to make a soft dough. Store in refrigerator. Punch out and shape into rolls as needed. Let rolls rise and bake at 450° until brown. Dough should stay in refrigerator at least 6 hours before using.
