How to make homemade apple pie filling:
In a large saucepan, blend sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Stir in water. Cook and stir until thick and bubbly. Add lemon juice.Pack apples in hot jars (leave a 1-inch headspace). Fill with hot syrup, use knife to remove air bubbles. Process in boiling water 20 minutes. Makes 6 quarts.
