Holiday brisket
Ingredients/Components
- brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
- water - 1 c
- oil - 2 3
- cloves garlic, minced - 2 item
- ketchup - 1/2 c
- salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
- onion, diced - 1 item
- red wine - 1/2 c
- brisket - 2 lb
- celery stalk, sliced - 1 item
- to 2 carrots, sliced - 1 item
- onion soup mix about 2 tsp - 1/2 pkg
How to make holiday brisket:
Brown meat on both sides in 2 tablespoons hot oil in ovenproof pan. Remove; sprinkle with salt and pepper and set aside. In the same pan, add vegetables and cook until wilted. Add garlic and cook a few minutes more. Return meat to pan. Cover with remaining ingredients. Cover and bake at 350° for 2 hours. Remove meat from pan. Cool meat and sauce separately overnight. Skim fat from sauce and puree. Slice meat and return to pan. Pour sauce over it and cook an additional 1/2 to 1 hour.Note: Freezes well.
