Hearty lentil soup
Ingredients/Components
- water - 5 c
- salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
- basil - 2 tsp
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- carrots, chopped - 3 item
- beef bouillon cubes - 5 item
- cabbage, chopped
- lentils - 1/2 lb
- medium potatoes, diced - 3 item
- beef shank - 2 3
- turnips, diced optional - 2 item
- stalks celery, including tops, chopped - 3 item
- tomatoes I use stewed tomatoes, 1 can Italian
How to make hearty lentil soup:
Place the ingredients in a slow cooker except the cabbage. Stew for 8 to 9 hours on low setting. Remove bones and cut meat into soup. Turn the slow cooker to high and add the cabbage. Cook 30 to 40 minutes longer. Serves 6 to 8. Freezes well.Recipe categories: Soups & stews, Beans, Lentil.
