Ham and corn chowder
Ingredients/Components
- half and half
- chopped onion - 3/4 c
- medium potatoes, peeled and cubed - 2 item
- chopped, cooked ham - 1 1
- cream style corn
- Salt and black pepper, to taste - 1 item
- Paprika, optional - 1 item
- or 4 slices salt pork, cut into small pieces - 3 item
How to make ham and corn chowder:
Fry the salt pork until browned. Remove the salt pork from the pan and set aside. Saut?© the onions in the fat. Cook the potatoes in salted boiling water until soft. Drain the cooked potatoes, saving about 1 1/2 cups of the liquid. In large soup pot or Dutch oven, combine the salt pork, saut?©ed onion, potatoes, potato water, and the corn. Bring to a boil and immediately reduce the heat and simmer gently for 5 to 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and black pepper. Add the cream slowly. Add the ham and simmer for another 5 to 10 minutes. After the chowder is spooned into the serving bowls, sprinkle with paprika, if desired.Recipe categories: Soups & stews, Chowders, Ham.
