Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 1/4 c
- butter - 1/2 c
- toasted almonds - 1/2 c
- light cream - 1 c
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- soy sauce - 2 tsp
- can sliced water chestnuts - 5 oz
- hot pepper sauce - 1/8 tsp
- sliced mushrooms - 1 lb
- medium onion, chopped - 1 item
- sharp Cheddar cheese, grated - 3/4 c
- frozen French-cut green beans - 3 4
- flavor enhancer optional - 1 tsp
How to make green bean casserole:
Saute mushrooms and onion in butter. Add flour and cook until smooth. Add cream slowly, then cheese and seasonings. Simmer until cheese melts. Cook green beans in salted water; drain. Mix with sauce. Add water chestnuts; top with slivered, blanched toasted almonds. Bake at 375° for 20 minutes. This can be made ahead.
