Ingredients/Components

  • eggs - 2 item
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • soda - 2 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • molasses - 3/4 c
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • brown sugar, packed - 1 c
  • ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • ginger powder - 2 tsp

How to make grandmother's gingerbread:

Beat sugar, Crisco and eggs until fluffy. Stir in molasses. Mix dry ingredients together; add in small amounts with buttermilk to the sugar, Crisco, eggs and molasses mixture. Blend well. Spread evenly in a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes, until a pick in center comes out clean. Cool in pan.
