  • eggs - 2 item
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • soda - 2 tsp
  • molasses - 3/4 c
  • ginger - 2 tsp
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • buttermilk or sour milk - 1 c
  • regular flour, sifted

How to make grandma's gingerbread:

Blend sugar, Crisco and eggs. Stir in molasses. Add combined dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Beat well. Spread in a well-greased and floured 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream or applesauce.
