Ingredients/Components

  • brown sugar - 1/3 c
  • vinegar - 3 Tbsp
  • ground beef - 3/4 lb
  • salt to taste - 1 item
  • medium onion, chopped - 1 item
  • bacon - 3/4 lb
  • cans B&M baked beans - 2 oz
  • ketchup or 1/2 c - 1 c
  • liquid smoke powder may be substituted - 1 Tbsp

How to make grandma's baked beans:

Place beans in crock-pot; reserve pork fat. Brown and drain ground beef. Add to crock-pot.

Cut bacon and pork fat into bite size pieces and fry until very crisp. Drain, reserving 3 tablespoons fat to saute onions. Add bacon to crock-pot. Saute onion until soft. Add to crock-pot.

Mix ketchup, brown sugar, liquid smoke, salt and vinegar and heat in pan used for cooking meat. Pour into crock-pot and mix well. Cook on low setting for 12 to 14 hours or on high 6 to 8 hours. Stir occasionally.
