Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 5 c
  • baking soda
  • egg - 1 item
  • vinegar - 2 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • molasses - 1 c
  • ginger - 1 Tbsp
  • ground cloves - 1 tsp

How to make gingerbread cookies:

Combine together all dry ingredients except sugar and salt. Cream sugar, shortening and salt. Add egg, molasses and vinegar. Add dry ingredients; mix well. Chill about 3 hours. Roll to 1/8 inch on floured surface. Cut into shapes. Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. Bake at 375° for 6 minutes. Cool slightly, then remove from sheet.
