Ingredients/Components

  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • milk - 1 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 6 c
  • butter - 1/4 c
  • cold water - 2/3 c
  • confectioners sugar - 2 c
  • baking soda - 2 tsp
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • ginger - 1 tsp
  • brown sugar, packed - 1 c
  • cloves - 1 tsp
  • soft shortening - 1/3 c
  • allspice - 1 tsp
  • dark molasses

How to make gingerbread cookies:

Cream shortening and butter; add vanilla. Gradually add confectioners sugar, one cup at a time, beating well. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar is mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at high speed until light and fluffy. Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to use.
