  • sugar - 1 c
  • cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • soda - 2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • powdered sugar
  • molasses - 1/4 c
  • ginger - 1/2 tsp
  • soft butter - 1 Tbsp
  • butter or margarine, softened - 3/4 c
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • milk or cream - 2 3

How to make ginger strips:

Glaze:3/4 c. powdered sugar1 Tbsp. soft butter2 to 3 Tbsp. milk or cream1/2 tsp. vanilla Mix first 4 ingredients. Add rest of ingredients (except glaze ingredients) and mix well. Shape into a 12-inch log and chill 5 minutes. Divide log into 6 equal pieces. Using an 11 x 14-inch pan as a guide, roll each piece out to width of pan and flatten slightly (should be about 2 inches wide with space between each row). Brush with water and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in preheated 350° oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes; cut diagonally into 1-inch pieces. Glaze while warm.
