German sweet chocolate cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- eggs, separated - 4 item
- coconut
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- boiling water - 1/2 c
- pecans - 1 c
- butter or oleo - 1/2 c
- egg yolks, slightly beaten - 3 item
- oleo 2 sticks - 1 c
- German sweet chocolate - 1 lb
- Cream oleo and sugar
How to make german sweet chocolate cake:
Melt chocolate in boiling water; cool. Cream oleo and sugar. Beat in egg yolks. Stir in vanilla and chocolate. Set aside.Mix flour, soda and salt. Beat in flour mixture alternately with buttermilk. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold into batter. Pour into 3 (9-inch) layer pans lined on bottom with wax paper. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly pressed. Cool 15 minutes. Remove and cool on rack. Spread frosting between layers and on top.Coconut-Pecan Frosting:1 c. evaporated milk1 c. sugar3 egg yolks, slightly beaten1/2 c. butter or oleo1 tsp. vanilla1 1/3 c. coconut1 c. pecans Cream the milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter or oleo and vanilla in saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in the coconut and pecans. Cook until thick enough to spread. Makes 2 1/2 cups.
