German sweet chocolate cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- chopped pecans - 1 c
- pkg - 1 oz
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- egg yolks - 4 item
- coconut
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- boiling water - 1/2 c
- margarine - 1 c
- sifted all-purpose flour
- slightly beaten egg yolks - 3 item
- egg whites, stiffly beaten - 4 item
- Cool
How to make german sweet chocolate cake:
Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in beaten whites. Pour into three 9-inch layer pans, lined on bottom with paper. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool. Frost tops only.Coconut-Pecan Frosting:1 c. evaporated milk1 c. sugar3 slightly beaten egg yolks1/2 c. margarine1 tsp. vanilla1 1/3 c. coconut1 c. chopped pecans Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks, margarine and vanilla. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, about 12 minutes. Add coconut and pecans. Cool until thick enough to spread, beating occasionally.
