German sweet chocolate cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- margarine or butter - 1 stick
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1 c
- sifted flour
- hot water - 1/2 c
- pecans - 1 c
- plus 2 Tbsp - 1 c
- can Angel Flake coconut - 1 item
- German chocolate - 1 pkg
- eggs plus 2 yolks - 2 item
- eggs, separated plus 2 yolks - 4 item
- Mix the buttermilk and baking soda and add to the mixture
How to make german sweet chocolate cake:
Cream together the shortening and sugar until smooth; add the egg yolks and blend well. Mix the buttermilk and baking soda and add to the mixture. Blend in the flour and vanilla. Melt the chocolate in the hot water and add. Mix well. Beat the egg whites until stand in peaks; fold into the cake batter. Pour batter into 4 layer cake pans that have been greased and floured. Bake at 350° for 15 to 25 minutes. Check to see when done. Remove from oven and cool on racks. Frost with the following.Frosting:1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. Pet milk1 stick plus 2 Tbsp. margarine or butter1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. sugar2 eggs plus 2 yolks1 can Angel Flake coconut1 c. pecans vanilla Put all ingredients into a large saucepan; cook until thick.
