German sweet chocolate cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- chopped pecans - 1 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- egg yolks - 4 item
- soda - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- boiling water - 1/2 c
- egg whites - 4 item
- sifted cake flour
- margarine - 1 c
- egg yolks unbeaten - 4 item
- Sift again
How to make german sweet chocolate cake:
Measure sifted flour; add soda and salt. Sift again. Melt chocolate in boiling water; cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks, one at a time, beating after each. Add chocolate and vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition until smooth. Beat egg whites to stiff peaks. Fold into batter.Baking: Pour into three 8 or 9-inch layer pans, lined on bottoms with paper or sprayed. Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool and spread with frosting.Frosting for German Sweet Chocolate Cake:1 1/2 c. evaporated milk1 c. sugar4 egg yolks1/2 lb. margarine1 tsp. vanilla1 1/2 to 2 c. Baker's coconut1 c. chopped pecans Combine evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, margarine and vanilla in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture thickens, about 12 minutes. Add coconut and chopped pecans. Beat until frosting is cool and thick enough to spread. Makes 2 2/3 cups of frosting.
