German red cabbage
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/3 c
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- salt optional - 3/4 tsp
- medium onion, sliced - 1 item
- medium red cabbage, shredded - 1 item
- white vinegar or cider vinegar - 1/3 c
- unpeeled apple, cored and sliced - 1 item
How to make german red cabbage:
Coat inside of large Dutch oven with cooking spray. Saute onion and apple until tender. Add all remaining ingredients. Cover and cook until tender, about 1 hour. Serve hot or cold. Yields 10 servings. Can be frozen in serving portions.(One serving made with sweetener and no salt equals 1 1/2 vegetable exchange, 43 calories, 1 mg sodium, 0 cholesterol and less than 1 g fat.)
