  • eggs - 2 item

  • butter - 1 Tbsp
  • potatoes - 2 lb
  • slices bread - 2 item
  • salt to taste - 1 item
  • pinch of nutmeg - 1 item

How to make german potato dumplings:

Cook potatoes in their skins the day before dumplings are to be made. Before using, peel, wash and grate potatoes. Add flour, eggs, butter and seasonings to potatoes and knead to a firm dough. Toast bread and cut into cubes. Shape dumpling mixture around bread cubes and drop into boiling water and cook for 10 to 15 minutes.

To test whether dough is of proper consistency, form and cook one dumpling. If it falls apart during the boiling, work more flour into the remainder of the dough before shaping.
