How to make german pancake:
Work butter and flour on a board until consistency of cornmeal. Add all other ingredients and carefully work into a dough, mixing everything well. It helps to add a little at a time and work in well. Let rest in fridge several hours, or overnight.Roll out base about 3/4-inch thick. Take some dough and press it up the side of a 10-inch tart pan. Spread jam. Take some additional dough and make your own design to put on top of the raspberry jam. I use my cookie cutters to make some of the designs. You can also take a glass, make a circle and cut the sides of the circle off to make leaves, then create you own design using the leaves. Paint with egg yolks. Bake at 350° for 3/4 hour. Let cool before removing from the pan. Makes 2.
Christmas would be incomplete without this Hanlon tradition.
