  • pkg - 1 oz
  • butter or margarine - 1/4 c
  • can evaporated milk - 1 oz
  • sugar
  • cornstarch - 3 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/8 tsp
  • eggs, lightly beaten - 2 item
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • unbaked deep dish pastry shell 9-inch - 1 item
  • chopped pecans - 1/2 c
  • flaked coconut

How to make german chocolate pie:

In a saucepan, melt chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring to mix well. Remove from heat; gradually blend in milk. Set aside. In a bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Gradually stir in chocolate mixture. Pour into pastry shell. Combine pecans and coconut; sprinkle over filling. Bake at 375° for 45 to 50 minutes, or until puffed and brown. Cool 4 hours. Chill (filling will become firm as it cools). Yields 6 to 8 servings.
