German chocolate pie
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- chopped pecans - 1/2 c
- pkg - 1 oz
- vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- butter or margarine - 1/4 c
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- cornstarch - 3 Tbsp
- flaked coconut
- large eggs - 2 item
- can evaporated milk - 1 oz
- unbaked 8-inch pastry shells - 2 item
How to make german chocolate pie:
Combine chocolate and butter in a saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring until chocolate melts. Remove from heat; gradually stir in milk. Set aside. Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt in a bowl. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well. Gradually stir in chocolate mixture, using a wire whisk. Pour into pastry shells; sprinkle with coconut and pecans. Bake at 375° for 45 minutes (pie may appear soft, but will firm after cooling). Cool at least 4 hours. Yields 2 (8-inch) pies.Recipe categories: Desserts, Pie, Pies and tarts.
