  • evaporated milk - 1 c
  • coconut - 1 c
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • all-purpose flour - 3 c
  • vegetable shortening - 1 c
  • pecans - 1 c
  • butter flavoring - 3 tsp
  • German sweet chocolate, melted - 4 sq
  • Add eggs one at a time and beat well

How to make german chocolate cake:

Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and beat well. Add flavoring and buttermilk. Sift in dry ingredients. Stir in melted chocolate. Pour into a greased and floured 9-inch tube pan. Bake in 300° oven for 1 1/2 hours.Icing:3 egg yolks1 c. coconut1 c. evaporated milk1 c. pecans1 c. sugar1 tsp. vanilla1 Tbsp. butter In saucepan beat egg yolks. Add milk, sugar and butter. Cook over medium heat for 12 minutes, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Cool and add coconut, pecans and vanilla. Spread over cool cake.
