Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- chopped pecans - 1 c
- pkg - 1 oz
- butter or margarine - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- butter - 1 c
- egg yolks - 3 item
- soda - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- boiling water - 1/2 c
- plain flour
- egg whites, stiffly beaten - 4 item
- milk evaporated
- egg yolks, unbeaten - 4 item
- fresh coconut
How to make german chocolate cake:
Frosting:1 c. milk (evaporated)3 egg yolks1 tsp. vanilla1 c. chopped pecans1 c. sugar1/2 c. butter or margarine1 1/2 c. fresh coconut Mix Batter: Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time, and beat well after each. Add melted chocolate and vanilla; mix well. Sift flour, salt and soda. Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into three 9-inch layer pans. Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool.Combine milk, sugar, butter and vanilla. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, about 12 minutes. Add coconut and pecans; beat until thick enough to spread. Frost top only.
