Ingredients/Components

  • shredded cabbage use knife - 8 c
  • carrots, shredded - 2 item
  • green pepper, cut in thin strips - 1 item
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • cold water - 3/4 c
  • envelope unflavored gelatin - 1 item
  • sugar - 2/3 c
  • vinegar - 2/3 c
  • celery seed - 2 tsp
  • salt
  • black pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • salad oil - 2/3 c

How to make garden slaw:

Mix shredded cabbage, carrots, green pepper and onion; sprinkle with 1/2 cup cold water. Chill. Soften gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water.

Mix sugar, vinegar, celery seed, salt and pepper in saucepan; bring to a boil. Stir in softened gelatin. Cool until slightly thickened; beat well. Gradually beat in salad oil. Drain vegetables. Pour dressing over top. Mix lightly until all vegetables are coated with dressing. May be served immediately or stored in refrigerator. Stir just before serving. Serves 8.
