Fruit cocktail



  • sugar - 6 c
  • water - 2 qt
  • seedless white grapes - 4 c
  • fresh ripe peaches - 12 item
  • jar maraschino cherries, halved, rinsed in water and drained - 1 oz
  • fresh pineapple canned pineapple can be used - 2 item
  • fresh ripe pears - 12 item
  • ascorbic acid mixture Fruit-Fresh or Mrs - 1/4 c

How to make fruit cocktail:

Measure sugar and water in saucepan and cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Add ascorbic acid mixture. Cool some in which to place cut fruit to keep it from darkening. Peel and cut pineapple, pears and peaches into small chunks. Put into cooled syrup. Mix fruit. Put in jars, reserving syrup. Heat syrup to boiling point; pour over fruit. Process in boiling water bath, quarts for 20 minutes and pints for 15 minutes. Makes 7 quarts.

One fruit can be substituted for another to best use your supply.
