Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- salt - 3/4 tsp
- water - 1/3 c
- soda - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 1/2 c
- molasses - 1/2 c
- sifted flour
- sifted powdered sugar - 1 c
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- butter or oleo
How to make frosted molasses bars:
Frosting:2 Tbsp. butter or oleo1 Tbsp. molasses1 c. sifted powdered sugar1 Tbsp. water Preheat oven to 350°. Lightly grease a 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, soda, cinnamon and cloves. Set aside. In a bowl, beat shortening at medium speed. Beat in sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, 1/2 cup molasses and water. At low speed, beat in flour mixture just until combined. Turn into prepared pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and frost while still warm.Frosting: In a small bowl, cream the butter with powdered sugar, molasses and water; mix well. Spread over surface. Cut into squares.
