Frosted apple squares
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- confectioners sugar
- shortening - 1 c
- sifted flour
- lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
- egg white, slightly beaten - 1 item
- corn flake crumbs
- sliced, pared apples - 5 c
How to make frosted apple squares:
Filling:2/3 c. corn flake crumbs5 c. sliced, pared apples1 to 1 1/2 c. sugar1 egg white, slightly beaten Glaze:1 c. confectioners sugar2 Tbsp. lemon juice Preheat oven to 400°. To make pastry, combine all ingredients in a bowl. Shape into a ball. (Dough will be soft.) Divide pastry in half. On floured surface, roll half the dough into an 11 x 12-inch rectangle. Place over apple mixture. Pinch edges firmly together to hold in filling. Brush top with beaten egg white. Bake 40 minutes.Combine confectioners sugar and lemon juice. Remove apple pastry from oven and while still hot, drizzle glaze over top. Cool slightly. Cut into squares and serve warm.
