Frosted apple squares
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- cinnamon
- salt - 1 tsp
- confectioners sugar - 1 c
- shortening - 1 c
- lemon juice
- sifted all-purpose flour
- egg white, slightly beaten - 1 item
- cornflake crumbs
- sliced apples - 5 c
- egg, plus milk to make 2/3 cup - 1 item
How to make frosted apple squares:
Filling:2/3 c. cornflake crumbs5 c. sliced apples1 1/2 c. sugar1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon1 egg white, slightly beaten Glaze:2 Tbsp. lemon juice1 c. confectioners sugar Preheat oven to 400°. For pastry, combine all ingredients in bowl. Shape into ball (dough will be soft). Divide pastry in half. On floured pastry cloth, roll half the dough into 10 x 12-inch rectangle. Place on cookie sheet. Sprinkle with cornflake crumbs. Spread with apples, sugar and cinnamon. Roll remaining pastry into 10 x 12-inch rectangle. Place over apple mixture. Pinch edges firmly together to hold in filling. Brush top with beaten egg white. Bake for 40 minutes.Combine confectioners sugar and lemon juice. Remove pastry from oven and, while still hot, drizzle glaze over top. Cool slightly. Cut into squares and serve warm.
