  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • oil - 1/2 c
  • warm water - 1 c
  • dry yeast - 2 pkg
  • warm water, divided - 2 c
  • instant potato flakes - 3 Tbsp
  • sugar, divided
  • warm water 105~ to 115~ - 1/2 c
  • Starter - 1 c
  • Pillsbury bread flour, sifted - 6 c
  • potato flakes, divided - 6 Tbsp
  • Let this mixture set out all day, then refrigerate for 2 to 5 days
  • Take out and feed sugar, potato flakes and warm water

How to make friendship bread:

Dissolve the yeast in the warm water, then feed it 1 cup warm water, 2/3 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons potato flakes. Let this mixture set out all day, then refrigerate for 2 to 5 days. Take it out and feed again with remaining 1 cup water, 2/3 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons potato flakes; let set out all day or overnight. Now, you are ready to use 1 cup of the Starter to make your first batch of bread. The rest goes back into the refrigerator to be used and the process repeated in 2 to 5 days.Starter: Initial Starter3/4 c. sugar3 Tbsp. instant potato flakes1 c. warm water Put Initial Starter in refrigerator 3 to 5 days. Take out and feed sugar, potato flakes and warm water. Mix ingredients well and add to Initial Starter. Let stand out on counter 8 to 12 hours. When very bubbly, take out 1 cup to make bread and return Starter to refrigerator. Keep refrigerated and feed again in 3 to 5 days. If you do not choose to make bread again, take out 1 cup and give to a friend and feed as usual.Friendship Bread:1 1/2 c. warm water1 c. Starter1/3 c. sugar1/2 c. oil1 tsp. salt6 c. Pillsbury bread flour, sifted In a large bowl, make a stiff batter of warm water, Starter, sugar, oil, salt and bread flour. When you have a stiff batter, grease a large bowl, not metal, with oil. Put in dough and turn over so that oily side is on top. Cover and let stand overnight. Do not refrigerate. Let dough rise.
