Fried tomatoes



  • milk - 1/2 c
  • flour - 1 item
  • brown sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • salt and pepper - 1 item
  • tomatoes solid, cut in 1/2-inch slices - 4 item
  • hot fat and butter - 3 Tbsp

How to make fried tomatoes:

Dredge slices thickly with flour. Fry quickly in 2 tablespoons hot drippings or butter, browning well on both sides. Remove to serving platter. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and brown sugar. Keep warm. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the pan and blend in a tablespoon flour. Add the milk and cook, stirring constantly. Should be about the consistency of thick cream. Pour over tomatoes and serve.
