Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • cooking oil - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • cloves garlic, minced - 2 item
  • medium onion, diced - 1 item
  • lean ground beef - 1/4 lb
  • bean sprouts - 1 c
  • clove garlic, crushed - 1 item
  • French-cut green beans - 1/2 c
  • Patis fish sauce - 1 Tbsp
  • diced turnips or singkamas - 1/2 c
  • sweet potato, pared and diced - 1 item
  • Add ground beef; season with salt, Patis and pepper

How to make fried lumpia:

Saute garlic and onion in hot oil. Add ground beef; season with salt, Patis and pepper. Cover and let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Add turnips and sweet potato; saute for 5 minutes. Add green beans and bean sprouts; cook for 2 minutes. Let cool to room temperature.

For lumpia wrapper, use thawed frozen Chinese spring roll wrapper or commercially prepared lumpia wrappers.

To Wrap: Place 2 tablespoons of filling diagonally near one corner of wrapper, leaving 1 1/2-inch edge space on both ends. Fold one side (along the length of the filling) over filling. Tuck in both ends and roll neatly. Moisten other side of wrapper with water to seal edge.

Heat skillet over medium heat. Pour oil to about 1/2-inch depth; heat 2 to 3 minutes. Fry rolls until golden brown on all sides (about 4 to 6 minutes). Cook only a few pieces at a time. Serve with Garlic-Vinegar Dip.Vinegar and Garlic Dipping Sauce:1/4 c. vinegar1 clove garlic, crushed1/2 tsp. salt Thoroughly blend.
