Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- milk - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 1 c
- cornstarch - 3 Tbsp
- almond extract - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder
- shortening - 3 Tbsp
- pitted, fresh, tart cherries - 4 c
How to make fresh cherry cobbler:
Preheat oven to 400°. Blend 1 1/4 cups sugar and cornstarch in medium saucepan. Stir in cherries and almond extract. Cook, stir constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to boil. Boil, stirring, for 1 minute. Pour into 2-quart casserole, not greased, and keep hot in oven while preparing topping.For topping, mix flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, baking powder and salt in bowl. Add shortening and milk, then cut through shortening and mix until dough forms a ball. Drop by spoonfuls onto hot fruit. Bake 25 to 30 minutes until top is golden brown.
