French onion soup
Ingredients/Components
- butter or margarine - 3 Tbsp
- salt - 1 item
- flour - 2 3
- pepper - 1 item
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tsp
- croutons - 1 item
- large onions, thinly sliced - 4 item
- cans beef broth - 2 1/2
- cans beef consomme - 2 1/2
- cheese of choice - 1 item
How to make french onion soup:
Saute onions in butter until golden, about 20 minutes. Add flour and cook about 5 minutes, stirring to prevent flour burning on pan bottom. Add broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to prevent lumping. Bring to boil; season to taste. Simmer a while.Place soup in bowl; top with toasted croutons and sliced Swiss, Gruyere or Mozzarella cheese. Pass under broiler or place in hot oven until cheese is melted and bubbly.
