  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • grated Parmesan cheese - 1/4 c
  • slices French bread - 6 item
  • shortening or bacon drippings - 1/3 c
  • thin slices Gruyere cheese - 6 item
  • beef stock or 3 cans beef consomme, diluted with 2 c - 7 c

How to make french onion soup:
