Ingredients/Components

  • sugar, divided - 1 c
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/3 c
  • sifted flour
  • baking powder
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • melted butter - 1 item

How to make french breakfast puffs:

Cream 1/2 cup sugar, egg and shortening. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Fill 12 greased muffin pan holes 2/3 full with batter. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes. When done, dip puffs, while hot, in melted butter, then roll into 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon mixture. Freezes well. Serve hot or cold.
