Flaky pie crust
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- cold water - 5 6
- shortening - 2/3 c
- sifted flour - 2 c
How to make flaky pie crust:
Preheat oven to 400°. Sift flour with salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine meal. Sprinkle with water a tablespoon at a time, mixing lightly with fork until all flour is moistened. Form dough into ball. Divide in half. Roll each to 1/8-inch thickness on lightly floured board. Fit pastry loosely into pie plates. Prick bottom and sides with fork. Trim and flute edges. Bake 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.For 2-crust pie, don't prick. Makes 2 (8 or 9-inch) single crusts or 1 double crust.
