Favorite beef stew
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/4 tsp
- pkg - 1 oz
- water - 4 c
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- lemon juice - 1 tsp
- paprika - 1/2 tsp
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tsp
- bay leaf - 1 item
- salt to taste - 1 item
- carrots, sliced - 4 item
- large onion, sliced - 1 item
- dash of allspice - 1 item
- medium potatoes, diced - 4 item
- dash of cloves - 1 item
- beef chunks, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes - 2 lb
- seasoned pepper or to taste - 1/2 tsp
How to make favorite beef stew:
Brown meat in hot shortening in Dutch oven. Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, onion, bay leaf and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Simmer, covered tightly, for 1 1/2 hours.Stir occasionally. Add vegetables. Continue cooking for 30 to 45 minutes or until vegetables are done. Thicken with a paste made of flour and cold water. If desired, for more beef flavor, add a couple of beef bouillon cubes. Mash to dissolve. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
