Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • baking soda - 1/4 tsp
  • unsifted flour - 6 c
  • cornmeal - 1 item
  • dry yeast - 2 pkg

How to make english muffin bread:

Combine 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt and baking soda. Heat liquid until very warm (120° to 130°). Add to dry mixture; beat well. Stir in remaining 3 cups of flour to make a stiff batter. Spoon into 2 (8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch) loaf pans which have been greased and sprinkled with cornmeal. Sprinkle tops with cornmeal. Cover; let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes. Bake at 400° for 25 minutes. Remove from pan immediately and cool.
