Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 6 8
  • butter - 1 Tbsp
  • honey - 3 Tbsp
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg
  • warm not hot water - 1/2 c

How to make easy white bread:

Scald milk; add honey, salt and butter (set aside). Combine yeast and water while milk is cooling to lukewarm, then add together. Add enough flour to make a thick batter (like pancake). Cover and let rise about 1 hour, until double. Beat down with a wooden spoon and let rise again. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough. Knead 8 to 10 minutes. Put dough in lightly greased bowl and let rise until double. Knead 2 to 3 minutes. Split dough and put into loaf pans. Let rise. Bake at 375° for 45 minutes. Lower temperature to 350° and bake until tops are golden brown and bottoms sound hollow when tapped.

Tips: Quick rise yeast cuts rising time in half. Different types of flour may be used. Using an electric beater in first and second risings will make it easier on you. Use a sharp knife to cut bread when done so as not to rip bread apart.
